Deep questions to ask your spouse
You married someone with an entire inner world — and however long you’ve been together, you have not seen all of it. People keep growing after the wedding: new worries, new daydreams, new versions of themselves quietly under construction.
These questions are invitations, not interrogations. They ask about the paths not taken, where the mind wanders on an ordinary drive, the question your spouse is still answering about themselves. Stay curious, and the person across the table keeps becoming new.
- What is a 'brave truth' you’ve been sitting with? How can I hold the space for you to share it without needing to fix it right away?
- What is a dream or interest you've had recently that you haven't shared with me yet?
- What is one part of your personality that you feel is often misunderstood by others, but that I see clearly?
- Share a moment this week when you felt vulnerable. How did my reaction affect you?
- What is a question about yourself you're still quietly trying to answer right now?
- Is there a path you didn't take—a version of yourself you still think about? Who is that person?
- What has been occupying the back of your mind lately that hasn't quite made it into words with me yet?
- What is something you believe now that your younger self would be surprised to hear?
- When you get a rare hour entirely to yourself, where does your mind actually want to go?
- Is there a worry you've been carrying that you haven't wanted to say aloud? I want to understand it, not fix it.
- What are you curious about learning or trying lately that has nothing to do with me or us—just you?
- What is a memory from before we met that shaped who you are, that I've somehow never heard?
- What is a small thing that's been quietly bringing you joy lately that I might not have noticed?
Union asks you one of these each week — free.
